Local MP To Present Prizes at ACE Centre Evening

It has been confirmed that the MP for Pendle, Andrew Stephenson, has agreed to attend the Awards Evening at the ACE Centre and will present the prizes to the Section winners.

New Overseas Category Added To The Competition

The competition has attracted so much interest from abroad, ie outside the UK, that we have decided to add an extra category for entries from Overseas.

The prizes for the Overseas category have yet to be decided but the 1st 2nd and 3rd place in the category will definitely each receive a certificate, show CD and copy of the Pendle War Poetry Competition 2012 booklet with their poem included in it.

The winning poem will also be read out at the awards evening at the ACE Centre on 18th October.

Further details of the prizes for the Overseas category winners will be announced shortly.

Dean Johnson Appointed To Panel Of Judges

Singer songwriter Dean Johnson - creator of "Bullets & Daffodils - the Wilfred Owen Story" - has agreed to join the panel of judges.

Dean set up the "Wilfred Owen Story" exhibition in Birkendhead to help commemorate Owen's formative years spent on the Wirral.

He is an accomplished singer songwriter and set some of Owen's most famous poems to music for the show, as well as writing new songs to help tell the story of Owen's life.

Colne Book Shop Sponsors Junior Prize

The Bookshop in Colne has kindly offere to sponsor the Under 18 section of the competition and provide a book token as a prize.

Proprietor Jo Hacking has agreed to be a member of the panel of judges.

The Bookshop Colne is a local independent bookshop. It is situated in Colne's main street and is just above the ancient medieval church of St Bartholomew.

Ed Saville Joins Panel Of Judges

The Rev Ed Saville, vicar of St Lukes Church in Brierfield, has been appointed to the panel of judges for the 2012 Pendle War Poetry Competition.

Ed is also, among other things, Lead Officer Social responsibility at Blackburn Dicoese, a Trustee of the Pendle Community Network, and a member of Nelson, Brierfield and Reedley Rotary Club.

Sue Madigan Appointed to Panel Of Judges

Susan Madigan - PR and Publicity Manager for Pendle Leisure Trust has kindly agreed to be on the Panel of Judges for this year's competition.

Sue is a big fan of Wilfred Owen's war poetry and used to wrote for the Burnley Express so she clearly knows her stuff!

Pendle Leisure Trust have generously donated some Spa packages for use at the Inside Spa in Nelson for the Adult winners of the poetry competition.  Full details of all prizes will be announced shortly.

Pendle War Veteran To Judge Competition

Popular World War 2 veteran Roy Hardacre (in photo), from Fence has agreed to be one of the judges for this year's War Poetry competition.

Roy joined the RAF in 1939 after the outbreak of World War 2 and served in West Africa and the Middle East.  His father fought in the First World War.

On his appointment to the panel of judges, Roy said: "I am really pleased to have been asked to judge this competition. I enjoy reading and think that anything that encourages people to be creative is a good idea - especially if they can show an appreciation  of wider things going on in the world."

The War Poetry Competition is a good opportunity to remember the sacrifces that have been made and continue to be made to this day."

Wilfred Owen Show Premiere Inspires New Poetry Competition

The East Lancs première of "Bullets & Daffodils" - a new musical drama about the life and works of World War 1 poet Wilfred Owen will take place at the ACE Centre in Nelson on Thursday 18th October and to coincide with this historic occasion, we are pleased to announce the 2012 Pendle War Poetry competition.
