2012 Competition Results: OVERSEAS

In the OVERSEAS Category, the judges have announced the following result:

1st Place: “The Soldier” by Edgar Esler, New Zealand

2nd Place: “A Soldier’s Thought” by Christopher J S Adde, Sierra Madre USA

3rd Place: “Tears of Yesterday” by Emmanuel Ugokwe, Nigeria

Highly Recommended:

“I Didn’t Feel the Bullet” by Peter Parsley, Belgium

“Puddles” by Neil Leinwohl, Rockville Centre, NY USA

The writers of the 1st , 2nd and 3rd placed poems each receive a certificate, a  copy of the “Bullets & Daffodils” Soundtrack CD and a copy of the “Pendle War Poetry Competition – Selected Poems” 2012 book, in which their poems will be included.

The Highly Recommended entries will also receive a certificate and their poems will be included in the book.

The winning poems will be read out at a special presentation evening to be held at the ACE Centre in Nelson on Thursday 18th October on the occasion of the East Lancs Première of the Bullets & Daffodils show, in the presence of the Mayor of Pendle, local MPs and other dignitaries.  

Competition winners will be contacted individually regarding the Presentation Evening.

2012 Competition Results: LOCAL PENDLE (ADULTS)

The 2012 Pendle War Poetry Competition has attracted hundreds of entries from right across the world. The overall standard has been very high and the judges have all commented on what a difficult decision it has been to arrive at a winner.

In the LOCAL PENDLE (ADULT) Category, the judges have announced the following result:

1st Place:  “Battlefield” by Olwen Lund

2nd Place:  “The Convoy” by Bob Walker

3rd Place:   “Barnstormers” by William Stephenson

(Note: There was a large tie for Highly Recommended poems in this section and the writers will be contacted separately.)

Results To Be Announced On Sunday!

The results of the 2012 Pendle War Poetry Competition will be posted on this website during the afternoon / early evening of Sunday 30th September.

The individual section winners will also be advised individually by email.

The prizes will be awarded and the winning poems will be read out at a special presentation evening at the ACE Centre in Nelson on Thursday 18th October.

Competition Closed For 2012 Entries

The deadline for submissions for the 2012 competition has now passed and no new entries will be accepted for this year's event.

Hundreds of entries have been received from all over the world and these are now being sorted into categories reading to be passed to the judges.

The results will be posted here during the first week of October and all section winners will be advised by email at that time.

Please note: any entries received from now on will NOT be counted for the 2012 competition but will be held over for the 2013 competition, about whihc details will be posted on this website at a later date.

Entry Deadline Extended to 17th September 2012

Due to the high level of interest in this competition and the fact that many schools have not yet started back after the summer holidays, it has been agreed that the deadline for poetry submissions will be extended to 6pm on Monday 17th September 2012.

This represents an extra week of poetry writing - good luck everybody!
